How to cancel TransUnion

TransUnion is one of the big three credit reporting agencies, along with Experian and Equifax. You may have signed up for a $1 credit check, which TransUnion will silently convert to a $19.95 / month membership if you don’t cancel within a week.

If you don’t know where to go, getting out of this membership can be challenging. As the team behind Penny, we’ve experienced this first hand. To help you out, we decided to sign up for their services ourselves and figure out the best ways to cancel your account. With TransUnion, you have two options for canceling: online or by phone.

Cancel Online

  1. Click on this link.
  2. Sign in.
  3. Click “Continue & Cancel.”
  4. Click “Cancel My Monitoring.”
First confirmation page.
Second confirmation page (just in case you’ve changed your mind).

Cancel Over Phone

With TransUnion, your second and only other option is to cancel over the phone by calling (855) 681–3196. Here are their hours:

  • Mon-Thurs: 8am-midnight EST
  • Fri-Sun: 8am-8pm EST

If you go this route, remember to keep a record of your cancellation just in case your membership isn’t properly canceled and you have to contact TransUnion again. Write down the cancellation confirmation number, the date you called in, and the representative’s name and email the information to yourself for future reference.
